National Western Mine Rescue Competition
September 17, 2019
Fernie, BC - Hudbay Snow Lake (2018) and Hudbay Flin Flon (2019) each participated in and won the Manitoba Provincial Mine Rescue Competition over the last two years. Those wins entitled them to represent Manitoba at the biennial National Western Mine Rescue Competition in Fernie, BC on September 6 & 7, 2019.
In addition to sending teams from Manitoba to participate, the Mining Association of Manitoba Inc. was asked to coordinate and judge two of the seven underground tasks:
- Bench Technician
- Written Exam
- Fire
- First Aid
- Practical Skills
- Smoke/Search
- Obstacle/Recovery
Marshall Manns (Hudbay Flin Flon) and Todd Yuskow (Vale) were tasked with the underground fire challenge. They worked with Draeger Canada to set up a realistic scenario for the nine teams to test their firefighting skills.
Richard Trudeau (MAMI President) and Deanna Johnson (MAMI staff) judged the written exam task.
